Charles Tebbett was the founder of 'Parts Therapy' in the 1980's. Roy Hunter, one of Tebbett's students has advanced the technique.Imagine two children come home from school and both want to be on the computer, every day they argue over who has the computer first. After a while their mother comes in and asks what is going on and tells them that if they do not sort themselves out, she will. The children may come up with the answer and the arguements may stop, however, they may continue to argue and their mother will then tell them what is going to happen and if they don't agree the computer will be taken away. The theory behind Part's Therapy is that we all have different 'parts' to our subconscious mind and these 'parts' could be in conflict. Through hypnosis an experienced therapist can get these different 'parts' to communicate with each other and come up with a solution to a problem. For example, a person who wants to lose weight will have two conflicting 'parts', one which wishes to be thinner and another that wants to remain overweight. During the treatment both 'parts' will be invited to discuss the problem and to come up with a solution which they will agree upon. However, if these 'parts' are unable to find an agreeable solution or comprimise, the parental 'part' will be asked to provide the answer and will be asked to monitor the process.A typical Part's Therapy treatment will consist of an initial consultation where relevant information is gathered and the process fully explained. The client will then be hypnotised and given a CD to take away and listen to each day until the next session. The second session will involve the therapist asking the client's subconscious mind a series of questions. The answers to these questions will be analyised by the therapist and he/she will formulate the treatment for the third session. During the third session the different 'parts' will be invited to discuss the problem and to come up with an agreeable solution which they can all act upon. Subsequent sessions may be booked to monitor the progress of the client.
Part's Therapy has been used for all different types of problems and has proven to be extremely successful.
